In Vitro Fertilization
IVF or In Vitro Fertilization is a medical process by which an egg is fertilized by sperm, outside of the body. IVF is a major treatment that people consider when they are having trouble conceiving even after other methods of assisted reproductive technology failed. IVF is done by monitoring a woman’s ovulatory process, and removing the ovum from the woman’s ovaries and letting sperm fertilise them in fluid medium. After the ovum is fertilized by the sperm, the zygote is transferred to the woman’s uterus with the intention of establishing a pregnancy.

Pros
Cons
Helping Infertile Couples
Couples that are incapable of conceiving are able to become pregnant with the help of IVF

Creating Sick or Malformed Babies
There are fears of deformed babies with terminal illnesses
Preventing Baby Defects
By studying fertilization and early embryonic development outside of the womb, scientists may be able to learn how to prevent any birth defects.
Destroying Social Structures
IVF may end nuclear families because IVF would take the place of marriage and the natural breeding process
Multiple Eggs Harvested
People that want more than one child can use IVF to freeze their harvested eggs for a later procedure. This helps older woman who want to harvest eggs while they are still young, so they can use them for later.

Unnatural and Wrong
IVF can be considered wrong and unnatural because it can be seen as playing God. We are ending the natural breeding process and making life with technology
Independent Woman
Woman do not need to get married or breed with a man to have a child of their own
Expensive
IVF can cost from $12 000 to $15 000

IVF: For some a medical miracle, for others heartbreak
Mrs. Alvarez and her husband have been trying to conceive a child for seven years but have had no success. They spent the first four years in the Philippines where doctors were unwilling to suggest IVF. The doctors were reluctant to IVF because they approved of the traditional and natural ways of conceiving. They doctors also felt that Mrs. Alvarez was still too young for IVF and that there was still hope for her to conceive.
At the age of 38 Mrs. Alvarez was given medication and vitamins to boost her ovulation. However, with all the medication and vitamins and procedures that Mrs. Alvarez went through, she was still unable to conceive.
Finally, her doctor recommended IVF and with the approval of her husband Harold’s support, Mrs. Alvarez took the IVF procedure. After one cycle of IVF, Mrs. Alvarez became pregnant. The couple spent Dh30 000 but Mrs. Alvarez said that there was no better way to spend the money.
Fatima and Jayson Beltran tried to conceive for almost eight years. The couple says that they spent more than half of they had on IVF alone. After working for two consecutive years with no time off, Mr. Beltran was able to save for the procedure and after one IVF trial, Mrs. Beltran gave birth to twins, Ethan and Kyle.
Not all couples were as lucky as the Alvarez and Beltran family. After an ectopic pregnancy and two failed attempts at IVF, a Sudanese woman named Umm Ahmad was unable to afford a third cycle. This woman and her husband borrowed a loan from the National Bank of Abu Dubai and had no way of paying it back. The woman and her husband had no way of paying back the loan that they had to resort to charity.

Credibilty
I think that the article, “IVF: For some a medical miracle, for others a heartbreak” is credible and reliable. I can tell that the article is credible because I found it on the website The National which is very well-known. I also know that this article is credible because I know that the writer of the article, Manal Ismal has written many other articles for The National.
Bias
After reading my article, I think that it was unbiased. I think that the article was unbiased because the article wasn’t only about the successes of IVF but it also included some unsuccessful stories after IVF. Even in the title it did not side whether or not IVF was a good thing or a bad thing. The title is saying that IVF for some is a miracle for some a heartbreak because after reading the article you will learn about some lucky and some unlucky couples that went through IVF trials or procedures.

Web 2.0 is me, myself and I

Emerging technology has already affected today's literacy. I think technolgy has made people of all ages. In today's society we use many abbreviations such as "lol" "dkm" "dcm" and much more. I understand if you use any of these abbreviations but not when you use one for almost every word you make. How am I supposed to understand something like "WICBSST" meant "Wow, I can't believe she said that".
When I see people on facebook or twitter type like this I can't help but think..
Image From Tumblr
Typing that sentence doesn't take a long time so take the time and write out the full sentence and use proper grammar. People are even too lazy to type the word "you" and just replace it with the letter. I also think that people get careless when they are typing something out for school. I myself have thought that since technology has made spell and grammar check I do not need to read over my work. But this is wrong, you do need to reread your work because sometimes spell check changes your mispelled word into a completely different one. In addition, emerging technology has influenced today's literacy in a postive way. People are able to access articles and books much easier with e-readers and the internet. People no longer need to go out and buy books, they are able to access them while they are at home with the interent.

Web 2.0 is challenging us to "rethink ourselves" because of the new technology that has emerged. The new technology makes us rethink about of the things we post on the internet because there are predators out there that will stalk you based on what you post. I also know that we should be careful on what we post on the internet because it can affect your career. I've heard from numerous people that after you have done a job interview, the person will google you or look you up on facebook. If you are careless and posted a picture of yourself drunk on facebook, the interviewer would automatically not consider you anymore. We also have to rethink about our education with emerging technolgy. I know it is easy to copy and paste work you have seen on the internet but that is wrong. You are stealing someone's work and presenting it as if you made it. Any teacher, whether it is one in elementary, high school, college or university will not accept your work. They will give you a zero and some will make sure that on your record there will be something said about plagiarism. With emerging technologies we should learn that the easy way out is usually not the right path to take because "anything worth doing is worth doing well"

Always Be My Baby by Mariah Carey

My first impression of Mariah Carey's "Always Be My Baby" was "WOW, Mariah is so pretty in this music video" This song was made in the year 1995 and I saw this music only about a year or 2 ago. Looking at Mariah Carey then and now, not only has her image changed but so has her music. I found that this music video was a good interpretation of "young love". I think the theme of this music video is to show that your first love will always be a part of you. Although you and your first love haven't seen each in years, you'll still remember them because they were your first love. In the lyrics Mariah Carey sings "time can`t erase a feeling this strong" which supports the theme.  I think the inspiration of this music video was Mariah Carey's first love and how her first love will "always be HER baby". This is a good song because many people can relate to this because everyone has experienced love for the first time. The music video seems as if it is Mariah Carey as a young girl expierincing love for the first time. In the music video Mariah Carey is narrating the story of the her and her first love. The music video is taken place at a camp where the 2 kids fell in love. Mariah Carey seems like she went back to this camp to remember the memories she cherished with that boy. I don't think this music video shows any Gospel Values because the song is just a simple song about young love. I think the director of this music video did an amazing job because the music video matches the song. Usually when I hear a song I picture the music video in my mind and this is how I would picture the music video to be. In the end, I really love Mariah Carey and her music.

Self Esteem

1. I think that people are portrayed differently in media because they want to give us what society wants. On magazines they will probably put something provacative on the cover to catch the viewer's eyes. However, you don't need to put something provacative to get the viewer's attention. There are over a million different ways to catch a viewer's attention without using something provacative.

2. As a teenager, I am affected by these images. I personally don't give a lot of care in my appearence but other people do. In society people mostly judge you on appearence. Sometimes people won't be your friend because you're not dressed the way the media says should be dressed like. As I become more mature, I have learned that you do what you wanna do. You shouldn't change the way you act or dress just because someone told you too or the media disapproves of it.

3. I think to reduce the amount of young men and women that are negatively affected by these images are to learn that things we see in media aren't really people. The people on magazines or tv shows have either been through photoshop or are wearing a ton of make-up. In addition, the media should stop trying to potray what true beauty is. I remember this one episode of "That's So Raven" where Raven was on the cover of a magazine, but they only used her face not her body. They did this because apparently Raven wasn't "skinny enough". At the end of the episode Raven said this...

In media we need more shows and episodes like this. We need shows to teach teenagers and children that we are all unique and special in our own way. Noone can tell us that we're not.

4. To be honest, if there was a magazine cover where the subject wasn't all glammed up, I probably wouldn't give the magazine a second look. I know I sound shallow but it is true. If the magazine had a regular person on it, I wouldn't look at it twice or look through the magazine because nothing catches my eye. I am not saying that people that aren't glammed up are boring, I just prefer to look through a magazine with something that pops out and lures me in. I am not suggesting that the person should have their face photoshopped, I am saying that a magazine cover with a plain old person does not look appealling to read. If that person had an interesting background or was doing something interesting then I would probably look through that magazine.

To Share or Not to Share is the Question...

 1. I personally think file sharing is wrong, however I would be called a hypocrite because I myself, and I think almost EVERYONE has atleast downloaded a song from any file sharing website. If you have seen Transformers 2 you would remember the character Glenn Whitman saying........
Image From Tumblr
I agree with this statement 100%, except I haven't downloaded a couple thousand songs. On itunes, it costs about 99 cents or more for one song which is pretty expensive. If you bought 100 songs, that would cost almost 100 dollars which is unrealistic if you are able to download songs for free from a file sharing website like 4shared or mediafire. In addition, I think file sharing is convenient because instead of spending $20 on a DVD, you can just download it from a website and get the same quality. Although file sharing is wrong, I choose file sharing instead of buying because the prices of songs and other media on itunes are just way too expensive for me.

2. If I was a an artist and I made my own song I would want people to buy my song or CD. However, I wouldn't be mad if people downloaded my songs illegally because I already know that people do it anyways. When you're an artist, your profit is not only from the CDs or songs you sell. Your profit is a bunch of things such as your contract with the record company. If I was an amazing artist I wouldn't care if people downloaded my album illegally because if I was amazing a lot more people would by my album. However, if I was a artist that was going bankrupt or an artist that doesn't have a good recording company I would care more if people illegally downloaded my music rather than buying it.

3. Morally I think downloading material that has been copyrighted is wrong. Downloading this material is still considered stealing, but it isn't a big deal because it is very hard finding every single person that downloads something that is copyrighted. If you downloaded a CD illegally off the internet, you basically just stole that CD from a music store. The big difference between the two is that you are most likely to be caught stealing from a music store instead of downloading it online.
